Twitter searches now include photos and videos
Twitter's new photo search, using top trending topic "Spell" as an example of a search
Searches on Twitter will now include photos and videos, and also strive to "deliver more relevant Tweets" on those queries. This new promo video shows how it's supposed to work:
Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey posted the new additions yesterday, and as of today, on my Twitter at least, images and videos are showing up, though not earlier this morning when I first checked. As you can see from the screengrab above, the top images and videos show up on the right-frame, under the "People" results. In this example, I clicked on one of the trending topics of the day, "Spell," and this is what I got.
Another handy thing: downloading the new version of Firefox with Twitter allows you to "type a #hashtag or @username directly into the address bar to go right to a search results page (try #idol) or someone's profile page (like @nba)."
Dorsey also mentions a rollout over the next several weeks of a feature that allows users to upload a photo and attach it to Tweets directly from Twitter.com, as well as from official mobile apps.
Those without smartphones won't be left out either. They should be able to send photos via MMS text messages after Twitter works with mobile carriers around the world.
