T-Mobile Sidekick 4G: The phone your kids will want

T-Mobile's latest device is a new spin on an old favorite. The popular Sidekick has been reborn as a 4G Android device and it'll probably be among the devices your tween or younger teen will beg you to buy.

The Sidekick 4G has a 1GHz Hummingbird processor under the hood and a bright 3.5 inch WVGA display in the front. The device is solid and felt comfortable in our hands whether we were using the full keyboard or the touchscreen. The phone has a secure sliding mechanism which we actually found ourselves preferring over the swivel mechanism of past Sidekick generations.

T-Mobile put a heavily skinned version of Android 2.2 on this device, but we didn't find that bothersome during our brief time with the Sidekick. In fact, we found the added jump menu — a shortcut menu of sorts, triggered by a specific button — to seem quite convenient and intuitive.

The Sidekick 4G will be available later this year and will be priced at $99.99 (after a $50 rebate and with a 2-year service agreement with an unlimited data plan).
