Siri outage continues for some
Some iPhone 4S users say Siri is still out of commission, days after it was first reported that the popular, voice-activated artificially intelligent assistant appeared to be ailing.
Apple has yet to comment on Siri's state, but the program — only on the new iPhone 4S — is one of its showcase features, although it does remain in "beta," or test mode.
Initially, when the iPhone 4S went on sale Oct. 14, many users couldn't get Siri to work because so many people were trying at the same time. Siri needs to go through Apple's cloud-based servers to work, and Siri's popularity caused a bit of a traffic jam.
Last Thursday, reports were that successful Siri connections were somewhat limited. The problem appears to have continued over the weekend.
"Mine wouldn't work Friday or Saturday ... Went to show a few friends considering the phone ... Needless to say they weren't impressed," wrote a Siri user on TechSpot.
Beta, schmeta, posted another: "Apple really shouldn't use beta as an excuse the service is spotty. They're using their prime NFL advertising spots for their Siri commercial. It's their biggest and latest and greatest feature right now and if you saw an iphone commercial this weekend I'd bet it was the Siri one. That's not a beta feature."
On Apple's own support forum, "Siri Still Down?" joined other related threads about the assistant's woes, including "Siri - 'Sorry, I am having trouble connecting to the network' "
"Was working for me last night and this morning (Saturday), but now has stopped again," posted Tonecrafter. "I'm getting very tired of this."
If you've got an iPhone 4S, is Siri working for you? Or is she giving you the cold shoulder?
