Rumor: Steve Jobs may appear at iPad 2 launch
Apple CEO Steve Jobs, currently on medical leave, is "definitely considering an appearance" at the iPad 2 launch tomorrow, according to AllThingsD's Kara Swisher. It was already shaping up to be a thrilling day for Apple fans and gadget lovers alike, as the dudes from Cupertino reveal the newest (thinnest? fastest? whitest?) tablet yet, but now the anticipation is even greater.
"If he did appear," wrote Swisher, "sources said Jobs would at least make a brief appearance onstage, along with other top company execs." But then she also said that the Jobs appearance was "definitely not confirmed." Perhaps Jobs himself isn't even sure yet.
It's important to point out that Swisher urges her readers to "show a level of respect to [Jobs] by paying more attention to what bells and whistles the iPad 2 has rather than to how his jeans are fitting," a reference to his recent emaciated appearance. But he is a celebrity of the highest level, and it's hard, even when we want to show the utmost respect, to turn a blind eye to any detail, especially when those details present themselves on stage right in front of us.
Will he show or won't he? More importantly, will the iPad 2 live up to our expectations? I will be there to find out firsthand. Make sure to visit Technolog or follow me on Twitter for the freshest news.
