It's safe to unfriend people on Facebook again
Last week it was discovered that the new Facebook Timelines could be used to find out exactly which of your friends quietly unfriended you at some point. Unfortunately — or fortunately, depending on your personal life — Facebook has decided to put an end to this "feature."
The clever trick — which was discovered by the folks at Buzzfeed — was pretty simple.
All you had to do after enabling Timeline on your Facebook account was pick a random year and scroll down until you found a "Friends" box. Once you'd found one of those boxes, you'd click on the "Made [some number] New Friends" text. Then you'd see a little pop-up with a list of the friends you made at that particular point in time. If you were still friends with a person, the button next to his or her name would say "Friends." But if you weren't? Then the button would say "Add Friend" instead.
No more of that though. Now people who are no longer friends with you simply don't appear in that list.
Ah, well. We had fun with this whole thing while it lasted. And at least now we can safely unfriend people again without worrying about an angry email arriving later in the day.
